Why Being Realistic May Actually Start Helping You Achieve Your Goals

My entire life I have always been a positive person. While I think it’s extremely important to have a positive outlook on life, sometimes you can actually take it too far. Being too optimistic can not only cause you to have blind spots but can also create a form of laziness. It feels good to dream, in fact, your brain can release dopamine without taking any action.

Early on in my career it felt like nothing could go right. It seemed like every promotion I’d lose to someone else and I would always get the short end of the stick. Why was this the case? I had too many blind spots. Because I was so optimistic, I wasn’t being honest about my shortcomings. While all of the cute inspirational videos online tell you to work hard and dream big, doing that alone won’t help you reach your goals. Extreme preparation and execution will.

Below I am going to list three easy steps to implement so you can start actually hitting your goals and targets.

#1 Always Know Your Odds. Postioning is Power. You Aren’t Superman.

No matter how positive you are, constantly entering into situations where the odds are stacked against you isn’t admirable, it’s dumb. Now this doesn’t mean you should stop taking risks but instead you should only take calculated ones. It’s important to always understand the downside of every situation. Ask yourself this simple question, “what could go wrong here and what will happen if it does?”

Understanding the potential downside not only brings you peace but it helps you take the correct measures to insure your success.

#2 Anything is Possible. But Nothing Just Happens. Prepare Now.

Can anything happen? Yes. Will it happen just because you are a nice and hardworking person? No. It’s time to get out of LaLa land and get serious. The fact is this, if you don’t train and prepare like the best in the world you won’t be. Winners move differently.

Stop wishing and start doing. If you’re complaining and blaming others you’ll never win. You’ll only be annoying.

#3 Move Boldly and Fearlessly. You Will Die One Day.

People who are too hesitant are liabilities. They attract problems. If you want to start achieving more success it’s important to be bold. Many times it’s better to be decisive than right. All the preparation you’ve done will go out the window if you don’t go after what you want. Properly prepare then attack fiercely.
